Health Professionals

The Health Professional’s Market:

Health professionals are generally considered to be people with a medical qualification. This would certainly include both doctors and nurses. As with any general definition, this could well be extended to include pharmacists, natural health practitioners and others involved in the care and well being of people.

Considering the above, a point-of-care environment, could be a definition for a number of different facilities ranging from doctors surgeries, to chemists, and from local health centres to retirement villages. Point-of-care, simply means the point where a person (maybe a patient)  can get some health care from a trained professional. A typical example maybe an aged care facility, where the point-of-care is a nursing facility. Many people who suffer from diabetes or heart problems, need to constantly monitor their blood glucose and cholesterol levels. You would probably be surprised at the number of people that also need to monitor uric acid and hemoglobin levels.

Natural health practitioners are a particularly important part of this market segment, in that they are very concerned with relevant blood levels. Many of these professionals already offer a point-of-care test for blood glucose levels and would like to be able to offer a more comprehensive service. In addition, they would like to be able to offer some of their patients the opportunity of self-testing at home.

Family DoctorDoctors surgeries offer another opportunity in relation to point-of-care and already, many surgeries offer various services to assist their patients. It is important to state here that such a service is not a substitute for a full blood test, but is an ideal way to obtain a very quick result. This would no doubt assist the doctors in deciding their course of action.

All of the above markets can really only be serviced by a localised distributor, as so much depends upon personal service and attention. The ability to be able to get information and supplies quickly would be a fundamental aspect of this very large market segment.

The above is by no means the limit of the point-of-care service and there are many more opportunities existing in this area. There is no particular reason to limit these services to professionals, but it is important that people involved in this area, have adequate training both in health care and product usage.
