Anemia

The Aspects of Anemia:

When a person’s red blood cell count or hemoglobin level is less than normal, it is generally accepted that the person suffers from a medical condition known as anemia. In broad terms, anemia is caused either by the loss of production of red blood cells, or just the reduction of them. It is important to note that the normal hemoglobin (red blood cell) level, is different for men and women, with women having a lower normal level.

Probably the biggest cause of anemia is iron deficiency and this is where the body does not have a sufficient intake to maintain the production of red blood cells. Of course, any serious loss of blood could also cause anemia and there are some other similar causes, such as vitamin B12 deficiency.  Other possible serious causes,  could be either leukemia, because it gets into the bone marrow, or even kidney failure, due to lack of hormones. Anemia can even be the result of diet such as lack of leafy greens, or the over consumption of alcohol.

Persons with anemia become exhausted very easily, when undertaking any physical activity. Full testing for anemia, may involve up to six different components, of which one of these is hemoglobin levels, however, it is amongst the most relevant. Hemoglobin is actually the red compound in the blood cells and it has the all important function of transporting oxygen from the lungs around the body and carbon dioxide back again to the lungs. Low hemoglobin levels are, for all intents and purpose, the medical condition known as anemia.

There are a large number of medical conditions that relate to anemia and many of these are very serious, including leukemia, kidney failure, hair loss, anorexia, celiac disease, bleeding disorders and digestive problems. In some of these, anemia may be the result and in others, anemia may be an additional risk factor. MedicineNet is a website that has a lot of very useful information about anemia.

There is no doubt that hemoglobin levels are a very important reading in many medical conditions, therefore it would be considered prudent to monitor hemoglobin levels along with glucose and cholesterol, having regard to the particular medical condition and the advice received from a health professional. The EasyMate multi-function monitoring system is capable of testing and monitoring hemoglobin levels, along with those mentioned above, in a very easy and quick process.
